Summary

Set two miles north of Craighouse on the Isle of Jura, Leargy House is a thoughtfully restored former church that now provides high-quality self-catering accommodation. Its surroundings are every bit as striking as the interior, with sweeping south-easterly views over a white sandy beach towards the sea, Jura’s Small Isles Bay and the Mull of Kintyre in the distance. Corran Sands beach lies just 300 metres away, and the house is encircled by a spacious lawned garden looking out over the water.

Accommodation

The house has a warm, inviting feel, with hardwood floors and a large sitting room centred around a wood-burning stove, while the dining space and bedrooms benefit from a bright south-facing position. Heating is provided by oil central heating and underfloor heating, with electricity included. On the ground floor, an open-plan kitchen and dining area is well equipped with an electric cooker, microwave, fridge, freezer, dishwasher, kettle, cafetiere, toaster, washing machine, iron, ironing board and vacuum cleaner. The lounge offers fibre WiFi, a foldaway table tennis table, a fold-out single bed and an extra mattress, and while a TV licence is in place, there is no television.

There are two en-suite double bedrooms on the first floor and one double bedroom on the ground floor. Bathroom facilities include a first-floor en-suite family bathroom, a first-floor en-suite shower room and a ground-floor shower room. Linen and towels are provided.

Visiting the Area

The Isle of Jura offers dramatic scenery and peaceful, unspoilt places to explore. The main village of Craighouse is a lovely starting point, with views across the bay and access to the island’s distillery, Jura Distillery. Walkers can tackle the famous Paps of Jura for breathtaking views, while wildlife lovers may spot deer, eagles and seals across the island’s wild landscapes. Boat trips can also take you near the powerful Corryvreckan Whirlpool, one of the largest whirlpools in the world, making Jura a memorable destination for nature and adventure.
