Our two luxurious self-catering cottages are perfectly situated for guests seeking a walking, climbing or cycling holiday, offering an excellent base for exploring the Peak District whether you are planning a short break or a longer stay. Set within a listed working stable courtyard, the cottages combine character with modern comfort. Each property is fully equipped and provides Wi-Fi access along with its own private garden or terrace area for relaxing outdoors. Both cottages enjoy outstanding views, with Harry Eyre Cottage looking towards Mam Tor, the Peak District’s famous ‘shivering mountain’ and Shippon Cottage facing the impressive ridge of Lose Hill.
Shippon Cottage is a spacious and romantic holiday cottage full of charm and character, originally built in 1872. Enjoying stunning views of Lose Hill and immediate access to open countryside, the cottage provides a perfect haven to return to after a day outdoors. Upstairs, a large open-plan space features a striking antique four-poster bed along with an adjoining living area that includes a sofa bed, with drapes allowing flexible separation for an additional guest. Downstairs, the main sitting room opens onto a private garden terrace and lawn on one side and a picturesque Grade II listed courtyard on the other, with outdoor furniture, a barbecue and a summer gazebo for guests’ exclusive use. Inside, a cast iron gas stove creates a cosy atmosphere on cooler evenings, while the newly refurbished bathroom includes both a bath and shower, with towels and bed linen provided. The modern, fully equipped kitchen offers an electric hob, oven and grill, microwave, dishwasher, fridge freezer and washing machine, along with all necessary cookware and utensils. Centrally heated throughout, the cottage also features TVs and DVD players upstairs and downstairs, a Smart TV and ultra-fast 100mbps WiFi for added comfort and convenience.
Built more than 200 years ago, Harry Eyre Cottage blends contemporary comfort with the charm of its original features, creating a stylish yet cosy retreat in a particularly beautiful setting. The cottage enjoys views west towards Mam Tor and east into the courtyard and its open-plan ground floor combines the kitchen, dining and sitting areas into one welcoming space complete with a log burning stove, TV and DVD. The fully equipped kitchen includes a four-ring electric hob with grill and oven, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine and fridge freezer, along with all necessary cookware and utensils. Upstairs and downstairs are two well-appointed bedrooms, one with a queen-size double bed and TV/DVD and the other with twin beds, complemented by two bathrooms: an upstairs bathroom featuring an elegant Edwardian roll-top bath, wash basin and toilet and a spacious downstairs wet room with shower, wash basin and toilet. The cottage is fully centrally heated, with bed linen and towels provided and benefits from ultra-fast 100 mbps WiFi and parking for two or, if required, three cars. Outside, the enclosed garden is ideal for guests with dogs and offers a table, chairs and barbecue for relaxing, while a small brook running through the garden adds to the peaceful atmosphere.
Castleton, in the heart of the Peak District National Park, offers a wealth of attractions for visitors of all ages. The village is famous for its spectacular show caves, including Blue John Cavern and Speedwell Cavern, where you can explore underground chambers and boat trips through flooded tunnels.
