Visiting Aylsham & Exploring Norfolk

Aylsham is situated ten miles to the north of Norwich with the River Bure close by. Although the cottage has the feeling of being right in the country it is only a few minutes walk away from the city centre of this historic town with its 17th/18th Century buildings surrounding the market place. The imposing 14th Century parish church of St Michael is just to the north of the market place and the town has a good range of shops. There are regular bus services to Norwich, the Broads and the coats. A narrow gauge steam railway runs from Aylsham to the Broadland town of Wroxham.

The National Trust property of Blickling Hall, with its fine house, gardens and parkland walks are less than two miles away and there are several other National Trust properties in the area.

The city of Norwich offers a variety of attractions, including its cathedral, castle and theatres as well as a navigable river for boat trips and bankside walks. There are guided historic and ghost walks around the city in the summer months.

North Norfolk boasts many attractive coastal towns and villages as well as many small market towns and the royal estate of Sandringham.

The Norfolk Wildlife Trust and RSPB have a number of renowned reserves in the area. Quiet country roads and footpaths abound.
