Wickmere is a quiet hamlet made up of a few cottages built to provide accommodation for the workers on the Wolterton Estate, the family seat of the younger brother of the then Prime Minister, Robert Walpole. Using Swallow Cottages as a base, it is possible to walk or cycle safely along quiet lanes, reach all of the North Norfolk coast and the local market towns. Wickmere is close to Felbrigg Hall and within walking distance of Blickling Hall, two National Trust properties which are well worth a visit, both offering extensive woodland and lakeside walks as well as the houses themselves.
