In the village of Newton-upon-Rawcliffe there is a play area with swings, climbing equipment and an AstroTurf pitch for football, basketball or tennis.
There also is the New Inn at Cropton which is 4 miles away. This is well known for its tasty food and refreshing local real ales brewed on site.
The famous steam trains of the North York Moors Railway run between Pickering and Grosmont, the nearest station is about a mile away on foot. With the magnificent steam engines, beautiful rural stations and smartly uniformed staff, a visit to the North York Moors Railway is like taking a step back in time. From the smoke and steam pouring from the engines to the cosy wood panelled carriages and friendly conductor service, the railway is both lovingly preserved and charmingly authentic. It’s also the perfect starting point for a day out; whether you’re travelling between the rugged Yorkshire villages, hiking on the wind swept moors or spending a day by the seaside in Whitby.
