The Ruff

Summary

The Ruff offers charming self catering accommodation in the former harbour master’s house at the entrance for the sheltered bay of St Margaret's Hope on South Ronaldsay. We set in a truly stunning location, with the sea on three sides, accessed by a single track along the foreshore. Our traditional Orkney stone cottage is ideal for a peaceful and relaxing getaway in a beautiful part of the country.

Accommodation

Our delightful cottage sleeps up to 4 people and comes with everything you need for a memorable holiday. The house has been well insulated and sympathetically modernised to offer quality accommodation. Lovely features include Orkney flagstone and wood flooring and a large sitooterie with grapevine which offer a fabulous space for breakfast or drying off wet weather gear/bicycles.

The spacious cottage includes a well-equipped kitchen/dining area with a built-in oven, hob, and built under fridge with freezer compartment, microwave and dishwasher. Laundry facilities are also available. Unwind in the homely living area which has seating and a TV/DVD player.

Two comfortable bedrooms are available: a twin and king room. Both rooms share a bathroom with a shower over the bath. All bed linen and towels (not beach towels) are included.

Outside there is lots of space for children to play in, either on the lawned area or on the rock beach. The stone-paved entrance courtyard/patio is enclosed and offers a wonderful space for a morning coffee.

Visiting St Margaret's Hope & Exploring Orkney

We are in a great position for exploring the area. We are within easy walking distance of the village shops and golf course. Alternatively, head to the beach and take a dip in the sea. St Margaret’s Hope is also the departure point for the car ferry Pentland Ferries which departs daily for Gill’s Bay in Caithness. Attractions to visit include:
