You’ll find a ‘wow’ factor in each of our cottages from the stunning bathroom on stilts in Applestore Cottage, to an original stable feature in The Coach House and the ‘Grand Designs’ feel of The Barn, with its surprising internal contemporary space and its two quite different gardens!
Applestore CottageOur gorgeous cottage is perfect for a relaxing getaway. Downstairs is a lovely country style kitchen with original quarry tiled floor, farmhouse table and seating for 6. The fully fitted kitchen comes with a range of excellent appliances: washing/dryer machine, fridge and freezer, microwave, gas hob, electric oven and dishwasher. There is also a spacious sitting room with wood burning stove, natural flagstone floor, flat screen TV, DVD (with a selection of DVD’s), midi music system.
Upstairs is a large double bedroom with wonderful beams, a king sized bed and comfortable sofa. The newly built bathroom, with a large bath to relax in, is set on stilts over the garden and provides a light and airy feel with wide windows looking out onto bird feeders in the trees outside. The twin bedroom is in the old apple store with entry through a low door. At the far end of the room is an attractive separate bathroom with bath and hand shower, toilet and basin.
Outside is a charming walled garden with table, furniture and BBQ. This is the perfect spot to enjoy a spot of al fresco dining. Guests also have use of our garage for bikes and hosepipes for cleaning.
The BarnOur magnificent holiday home offers modern accommodation whilst retaining rustic charm. The huge patio doors and roof lights let plenty of natural light into the large main space with fully equipped kitchen, large dining table (for up to 10) for entertaining and comfortable sofa area with flat screen TV. We have added remotely controlled blinds to reduce heat gain in summer and to exclude the early morning sunshine for those in the twin bedroom.
On the North side of the building is a tranquil and relaxing sitting room with a second flat screen TV, DVD player and wood burning stove. A delightful sleeping area, with separate dressing area on a mezzanine floor, is accessed up the elegant glass and walnut stairs. The South side of the property consists has a wonderful twin mezzanine bedroom and a superb bathroom with deep bath and separate power shower. Next to it is a room, which doubles as a study, or it can be converted to a single bedroom and is suitable for less able guests.
Outside are two splendid, professionally designed gardens. One an Italian styled pebble courtyard full of structural plants and shapes with large wooden seated area for family meals, the other is a hidden gem for a romantic evening with champagne catching the evening sun.
The Coach HouseThe gorgeous cottage really is a place to remember. The Sunday Times chose the Coach House as one of its ‘100 Coolest Cottages for 2010’. Downstairs has a comfortable sitting room with log fire, flat screen TV and DVD player. There is also an elegant dining room with seating for 6 and a fully equipped kitchen which comes with a range of excellent appliances. French doors open out from the dining room on to the attractive garden. Upstairs is a spacious twin bedroom with indulgent furnishings, en suite bathroom, bath, basin and toilet. The twin beds convert to a large double bed on request. Along the landing is a splendid double bedroom with ensuite power shower.
Outside is a stunning landscaped garden with secluded parking. A paddock joins onto the garden and you are welcome to share our extensive garden, with its mature trees and wonderful structures.
Local AreaWe are the perfect base from which to explore the North Yorkshire. Yorkshire is particularly well endowed with gardens, from the traditional formal gardens of stately homes to the newly created wildflower sculptured garden of Dutch House. There are also many beautiful coastal towns to visit. Whitby is the ‘essential’ place to visit on the Coast. The Abbey and Churchoffer great views over the cliffs. Narrow lanes and snickets with interesting shops below the Abbey. Fish and chips all over the town. Beautiful harbour, colourful beach huts and great photo opportunities.
Ruswick Bay is protected from modernity by the nearby estate who also owns the lovely thatched house on the quay. Steep drive down, some parking, long curving sandy beach rich in fossils and colourful rocks. Great for cooking on the beach, flying kites, watching the sailing boats and exploring the cottages clinging to the cliffs. An up-market Robin Hood’s Bay. There are also many churches, abbeys, and houses to visit!
