The Captains House
Stein, Waternish, Isle of Skye
The Captains House is a self catering holiday apartment situated in the historic village of Stein, on the beautiful north-west Waternish peninsula of Scotland's Isle of Skye.
The AccommodationThis holiday cottage is a two bedroom, self catering accommodation occupying the first and second floors of the traditional Captainís House in the centre of the historic fishing village of Stein, a conservation area on the shores of Loch Bay situated on the west coast of the Waternish peninsula of North Western Skye.
The holiday cottage is traditionally furnished throughout and has electric storage heaters and a real fire (coal & logs), fire alarm cover, and a pay-phone. It sits above our craft shop and gallery. It shares the front door but is securely partitioned off from the ground floor with its own locked door. There is also a private door to the secluded rear garden.
Large traditional living room based on the first floor with windows to the front and rear overlooking the loch and rear garden. It is spacious, comfortably furnished and has a Victorian tiled open fireplace, colour TV and video recorder, and radio / cassette / CD player.
This self catering accommodation has a spacious kitchen and breakfast room which is fully equipped with electric cooker, microwave, fridge, double sink and drainer, table, chairs and stools, full range of crockery and utensils etc. with ample unit surface and storage area. The west facing window overlooks the loch.
The dining room is based on the first floor directly off the kitchen. Overlooking the rear garden, this room contains a large dining table and chairs.
Bedrooms 1 & 2: One twin & one double room on the second floor within the roof space with wide bayed dormer windows enjoying magnificent views out over the loch. Each room contains beds, wardrobe, chests, mirrors etc.
Bathroom 1 is based on the landing between bedrooms 1 & 2 again with a bayed dormer window and a "bath with a view" (which has been very popular). Also washbasin, WC, bathroom cabinet, electric fan heater and extractor fan.
Bathroom 2 is between the kitchen and living room with shower, toilet and washbasin.
Utility room is next to the back door between the ground and first floor, containing an automatic washing machine, tumble dryer, drying and storage space. Adjacent to the utility room is a separate toilet, use of which is reserved from 11.00am to 5.00pm for the person manning the shop.
Local AreaThe village of Stein was originally established by the British Fisheries Society in 1786 as a model fishing village along with Tobermory & Ullapool. Stein was designed by Thomas Telford but, on Skye, the brave venture failed and the buildings of Stein were left to slumber on for two centuries, forming a fascinating contrast with the grandiose scheme in Telfordís master plan.
