Smithy Cottage is a cosy cottage in the Scottish Highlands. A perfect retreat for 2, with lovely views of the surrounding area and of the Isle of Skye. The cottage was once the home for the local blacksmith but is now a cosy cottage that has a parking space outside and is only 1 mile from the beach.
AccommodationThe self catering cottage has an open plan living/dining area which is equipped with an electric fire and TV. The dining table can seat four and the room is attached to a conservatory which has seating and is a great place for relaxing with a book. The well equipped kitchen has got an oven, microwave, fridge, kettle and toaster. There is a double bedroom upstairs as well as another bedroom with a single bed.
Visiting Glenelg & Exploring Inverness-shireThe cottage is close to the local amenities of Glenelg which has a shop and a pub. There are various types of walks in the area such as the mountain ridges of Glen Shiel or coastal walks. There are also lots of places to cycle whether you are a novice or expert cyclist. There are lots of historical features close to the self catering cottage such as The Brochs or Eilean Donan Castle.
For those who want to visit the Scottish coastline, Smithy Cottage is ideal. The coastline offers opportunities to watch otters and seals and occasionally dolphins and porpoise pass through the Kylerhea narrows. Also very rarely basking shark and minke whale have also been recorded. Glenelg Beach is a popuular place in the summer for swimming, pricing, relaxing and sunbathing. Seals and sea birds can often been spotted along the coastline. The beach is about a mile from Smithy Cottage and has lovely views over the sea to Skye and the Sandaig Islands.
A short walk of 1.5 miles down through the forestry to the beautiful Sandaig Bay. This peaceful spot was immortalised as Camusfearna in 'Ring of Bright Water' - the famous book by Gavin Maxwell telling of his life with his pet otters. To visit the islands it is best to go at low tide.
The ferry to the Isle of Skye is only 2 miles away and is open from Easter to mid October.
