Local AreaBailey Mill is situated in the beautiful Border Reivers country which is renowned for its wild and dangerous battles in the past. Their story is vividly brought to life at nearby Tullie House museum in Carlisle. There are many working farms in and around Bailey where traditional breeds can be seen, such as black cattle and blackface sheep. The farming techniques allow the survival of wildlife and plants which are becoming rare elsewhere. Otters inhabit the river, deer and badger inhabit the woodlands and the ancient hedgerows and meadows are a mass of wildflowers.
Bailey offers a wide choice of activity. The Reivers Cycle Route, which is a spur of the Coast to Coast cycle route, is nearby and the Coast to Coast cycle route passes through Bailey. Walking is one of the best ways to appreciate Baileys peace and quiet and the quiet countryside provides the perfect opportunity to do some serious bird watching undisturbed.
