The Old Rectory was built in the 18th Century and is now a beautiful self catering holiday home in Symondsbury, Dorset. This magnificent building is a perfect place for friends and family to gather, it can sleep up to 29 people has plenty of places where guests can sit back, relax and watch the world go by. So whether it is sipping a cold G&T on the verandah or a game of snooker in the billiard room, The Old Rectory will be a place that you will never forget!
About The Old RectoryBeing a large country house, the very spacious accommodation comprises eleven double bedrooms; four with super king size six-feet wide “boat beds”, two with king size four poster, three king size, one twin bedded room, a family room with a double and three single French boat beds. There are five shared bathrooms and three of the large bedrooms have en suite bathrooms.
Combined, the bedrooms can accommodate up to twenty nine guests (or more if you wish to bring travel cots and/or blow up beds). If there are more than twenty two of you we can arrange for the extra futon/single beds to be readied. For extra accommodation there are also a number of good local hotels and bed and breakfast facilities nearby.
There is a very large drawing room with grand piano, seating on comfy leather sofas and armchairs and a forty inch flat screen LCD television with Blu-ray player.
The Old Rectory is steeped in history and was reputed to be the largest and one of the most beautiful rectories in England.
Local AreaOur beautiful Dorset holiday home is situated in the quiet rural village of Symondsbury which boasts a genuine village pub 'The Ilchester Arms', serving good locally produced food and beers from the local brewery. There are also some excellent restaurants nearby in Bridport, Beaminster and Lyme Regis.
This entire area of West Dorset is designated as being of outstanding natural beauty and is ideal for long walks. Our holiday home lies on the Jurassic coast, which is a world heritage site renowned for its fossils and wonderful cliff formations and is only about a mile and a half from the sea.
Bridport is a mile and a half away and has large street markets twice a week, selling fruit and vegetables, antiques and bric-a-brac. Activities in the local area include walking, horse riding, go-karting, paint balling, hang gliding, golf/pitch and putt and sailing/fishing to name a few.
There is a wide choice of restaurants and good pubs including one in Symondsbury only 100 metres from the house.
