Boltslaw Cottage is a self catering cottage set in the peaceful surroundings of the North Pennine Hills, near the village of Blanchland. The cottage is within easy reach of Hexham in Northumberland. The cottage retains many original features whilst having comfortable furnishings.

Accommodation

The living/dining room is comfortable and cosy with two sofas, ideal for spending an evening by the fire and includes a phone, flat screen TV with Sky Freeview, DVD player, a music centre and a WiFi hub. The kitchen is equipped with washer/dryer, fridge freezer and food processor.

There are two bedrooms, one a king-size and one twin. The garden has wonderful views and includes garden furniture and is suitable for barbecues.

There is plenty of space to run around and explore, with walks straight from the door, and the burn across the road is great for children (and Dads) to play and dam up!" A recent visitor's 8 year old son (who has stayed previously) jumped out of the car saying "This is my favourite place in the whole world"! Recent slightly older visitors have enjoyed the wildlife including red squirrels, curlew, lapwing and various owls. Rare moorland birds such as snipe and woodcock may be seen if you are patient.

Visiting Ramshaw & Exploring Nothumberland

Whilst staying with us you can enjoy scenic walks on the moors from the house, watch the birds and red squirrels and explore old lead mining remains. The nearby Pennine valleys of Weardale and Teesdale are full of character and offer great walking and cycling plus various coffee shops and restaurants. The famous Kilhope Leadming Museum is about half an hour drive from the cottage.

The nearest village is Blanchland, known as one of the most beautiful villages in the North East of England. It is two miles from the cottage. The village was originally a monastery and still reflects the layout and style from that time, and the Abbey is still functions as a parish church. The village includes the Lord Crewe Arms hotel/restaurant, the Felon’s Bar, a very nice coffee shop, a post office/ store and an excellent children's playground plus lovely riverside walks.

The Derwent Reservoir is only 15 minutes away and great for birdwatching and Derwent Sailing Club, Pow Hill Country Park and picnic areas. Other accessible attractions include Hexham, a historic town with an Abbey, a charming park and riverside walks, Wentworth Leisure Centre with swimming pool, 10 pin bowling and soft play. Hadrian's Wall is easily accessible as are Corbridge, and several Roman sites with museums, Housesteads and other Roman Forts, Northumberland National Park and the Sill visitor centre, are all within easy reach. The beautiful Pennine dales, Weardale, and Teesdale include attractions such as Stanhope with shopping facilities, Tourist Information, open air pool, and fossilised tree. Other attractions include Killhope, Leadmining Museum, and further afield Beamish Open Air Museum.

Other towns and cities include Newcastle upon Tyne with museums, galleries, shopping, restaurants, Durham City and Cathedral, Barnard Castle, Bowes Museum, Washington Old Hall, Beamish Open Air Museum, Tanfield Railway, Shildon Railway Museum (both have steam trains). Hartlepool and HMS Trincomalee. (All these are within an hour's drive). The nearest Northumberland beaches, coastal walks and Castles are about 1hr 15 minutes away. Alnwick with Castle and Garden are 1hr 20mins.
