Visiting Etole & Exploring GloucestershireLocated in one of the most unspoilt parts of the country, yet only two hours from West London and little more than half that from Birmingham, they offer the discerning visitor the perfect venue for a few days relaxation or a longer break.
Several nearby golf courses include the prestigious St Pierre at Chepstow, two at Colford and a friendly 9-hole nearby at Lydney. For anglers, there are well stocked local lakes plus fishing on the Wye. Lydney boasts a new sports centre with a good swimming pool. The forest is crisscrossed by miles of tracks where cycling is allowed, bring your own bike or hire one here. Horse riding through the forest is very popular or try your hand on the 4x4 off-road course or at quad bike racing. Rock climbing, abseiling, caving or canoeing on the Wye are other local activity sports. If you enjoy horse racing then Chepstow and Cheltenham are almost on the doorstep.
Oatfield is excellent for walkers and as a touring centre with the Cotswolds, the Brecon Beacons, Black Mountains and the Malverns all within a short drive as are Gloucester, Worcester and Hereford cathedrals. Cheltenham, Bath, Monmouth, Chepstow, Ross and Hay-on-Wye are all in easy reach, while Bristol, Wells, Ludlow and Stratford are an easy day trip away. And if you are into castles, there are nine, each less than an hour away!
