Cats Abbey in Sherborne offers stunning self catering accommodation. Our property is perfect gathering place for groups of up to 36 people, ideal for friends, families and small business conferences. It was designed and built for exactly that purpose. Halfway between Oxford and Cheltenham, in the centre of the Cotswolds, we are within easy to reach from anywhere in the UK.
The Barn can accommodate up to 22 guests across 11 beautifully designed bedrooms, ten of which have en-suite wet-room showers, including two interconnecting rooms that share an adjoining shower room and are ideal for families, while another bedroom has access to a separate bathroom with a bathtub. Four of the bedrooms are super king doubles that can also be arranged as twin beds if needed. The impressive main living area features a heated flagstone floor, wood-burning stove, gallery and exposed beams, combining modern comfort with the timeless character of a traditional Cotswold barn, and includes a dining area seating up to 30 guests. The kitchen is well equipped for catering to larger groups, with two ovens including a large conventional gas oven, as well as additional smaller combination microwave and traditional ovens. There is a large American-style fridge freezer alongside a spacious wine and drinks cooler and ample crockery and cutlery are provided, with enough place settings for at least 36 guests.
The property sits within 2½ acres of former farmyard, with the remainder of the six-acre site made up of a reclaimed quarry that has become overgrown and is planned as a future nature reserve. Guests can relax in various outdoor seating areas that offer stunning views across the Cotswolds and the Windrush Valley, with ample parking available for up to 20 cars as well as an EV charging point. The central courtyard garden is a sheltered sun trap and a safe space for children, while the south-facing open-fronted terrace is ideal for outdoor dining with a gas barbecue. During the colder months, sliding glass doors provide protection from the wind and underfloor heating ensures the terrace remains comfortable to use all year round.
Five stylish studio rooms with en-suite bathrooms are available as extra accommodation when hiring the Barn and are situated next to it, offering a little more privacy away from the main living space. Please note that these studios do not include any kitchen facilities.
This beautiful self-contained two-bedroom cottage can be booked alongside the main Barn on request and subject to availability, offering extra space and privacy while still allowing guests to take part in Barn activities. One bedroom features a double bed, en-suite shower and space for a cot, while the second bedroom also has a double bed with an adjoining bathroom and the cottage is fully equipped to provide all the comforts of home just a short distance from the Barn.
We are fortunate to be in an excellent location, halfway between Oxford and Cheltenham. Cheltenham is home to lots of cultural attractions, including many museums of galleries. Oxford is jam-packed with things to do, including seeing its stunning architecture and learning about its fascinating history. Attractions include:
