Taigh Thormoid 'an 'ic Iain

The house of Norman, the son of John, the son of John. This award-winning blackhouse is in the oldest part of the Gearrannan Blackhouse Village. It offers a sea view, solid fuel stove, underfloor heating, double bedroom, shower room, fully fitted kitchenette, and a living area. It is perfect for a single person or a couple.

Taigh Glass

Glass was the nickname of the son of Tormod 'an 'ic Iain. He left the village in about 1920 to settle in the village of Dailmor. At that time wood was very scarce so Glass carried all his roof timbers on his back across the country to his new home two miles away. This 4-star blackhouse offers a solid fuel stove, underfloor heating, shower room, double bedroom, single bedroom, fully fitted kitchenette, and a living area with a double sofa bed. It is perfect for a family. This house has been restored with the needs of disabled visitors in mind.

Taigh 'an t-Seņladair

The house of John the Sailor. His daughter Peigi was the last living resident in the Gearrannan Blackhouse Village, leaving in 1974. This 4-star blackhouse offers a solid fuel stove, underfloor heating, shower room, double bedroom, a single box bedroom, fully fitted kitchenette, and a living area with a double sofa bed. It is perfect for a family.

Taigh Ląta

Ląta was the nickname of John the Sailor's brother. This 2-star group accommodation blackhouse was one of the first to be restored in the Gearrannan Blackhouse Village. It offers a solid fuel stove, storage heating, fully fitted kitchenette, and a seating area. The accommodation is bunkhouse style, with sleeping areas of six, six, two and two. The house also has two toilets and two shower rooms. It is perfect for a large family or organised group.

The Gearrannan Hostel

This restored blackhouse hostel sleeps 13. It offers bunk beds, showers and a fully fitted modern kitchen. It offers accommodation for 10, plus a family room for 3. Set in a picturesque location, Taigh Dhonnchaidh is a unique hostel that offers budget accommodation for backpackers, walkers, cyclists, outdoor enthusiasts and students.

Notes: It is recommended that accommodation is booked by e-mailing [email protected] or by telephone (01851 643416), but visitors can stay in the hostel without prior booking if there are vacancies. It is advisable to buy your provisions before arrival as there is no shop nearby. RATES - £25.00 per person per night. Family Room £85.00 per night.

The village caters for a wide variety of visitors. Groups and individuals have the opportunity to experience traditional rural activities (in season), learn about the rich history of the area, relax and socialise in a unique atmosphere.
