The Shieling by the Bay offers luxurious self catering accommodation in the Outer Hebrides at Loch Carnan. We are situated on the island of South Uist and ideal for a tranquil getaway in a scenic location. The cottage is located for exploring the Western Isles by car or bike.

Our original 1800s traditional cottage is brimming with character whilst offering high-quality accommodation to suit all your needs. The cottage is beautifully furnished and comes with a range of added luxuries.

The open plan lounge/dining area comes with a heated slate floor, exposed roof beams, a peat fire, comfy seating, a flat-screen HD TV with Sky, a DVD player and an iPod docking station. A well-equipped kitchen comes with a range of appliances to suit all your needs: a Rangemaster cooker with a Wok burner and griddle, dishwasher, fridge and microwave etc. An adjacent building houses the washer dryer and freezer. A large dining table seats 4 and is perfect for enjoying some home-cooked dishes around.

The bedroom is floored with hand-cut elmwood and includes a unique rustic hand made double bed with a sumptuous mattress. The large bathroom has a traditional freestanding bath for soaking your troubles away. A separate Daryl Hydra Classic shower is also available.

This part of the country has an abundance of natural beauty to enjoy. You can fish on South Uist and Benbecula. The shell and alkaline machair loch on the west side offers quality brown trout and sea trout fishing, whilst salon and trout are also caught regularly. Askernish has a great link golf course and boat tours can be enjoyed at Uist Sea Tours. You can also visit Kilda, Barra, Mingulay, Lewis, Harris and the Isle Of Skye by boat for day trips.
