Summary

Ferry House enjoys one of the finest positions on the Salcombe Estuary. This self-catering, middle-of-terrace holiday cottage sits directly above the golden sandy beach opposite Salcombe, conveniently located next to the ferry hard. With magnificent water views and immediate access to the beach or sea depending on the tide, it offers a truly special coastal setting. Originally built in the 19th century as the ferryman’s house, the property was later extended and divided and is now one of a terrace of four cottages, combining historic character with comfortable modern living.

Accommodation

Downstairs, the living room features a sofa and comfortable chairs arranged around a wood burner, along with a dining table and chairs. Guests will find a well-stocked games cupboard, as well as local maps and guides to help plan their stay. The room enjoys sea views and has French windows that open onto the terrace. The kitchen is well equipped with an electric cooker, large fridge-freezer, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine and separate tumble dryer. Also on the ground floor is Bedroom 4, furnished with two sets of full-size bunk beds sleeping four, with sea views and French windows opening onto the terrace. A hall and downstairs loo complete the ground floor.

The cottage has four bedrooms in total, all offering plentiful storage with wardrobes and chests of drawers, and each bed is fitted with an individual reading lamp. There are three bath or shower rooms, all with a loo and basin, as well as a fourth separate loo.

Upstairs, the principal bedroom has a king-size double bed, splendid sea views and an ensuite bathroom with a shower over the bath. The twin bedroom has twin beds and a compact ensuite with a shower. The triple room contains three single beds, each with its own bedside cabinet and also enjoys splendid sea views. The family bathroom is fitted with both a bath and a roomy shower.

Outside, at road level, there is shared off-road parking for Ferry House and Ferryside, with each cottage having one garage space and one additional space on the hard standing. The two cottages share the terrace at the front and the steps leading down to the beach. There is ample room for guests to keep to their own side if preferred, though friendly greetings often lead to cheerful chats over a cup of tea or a glass of wine, and ready-made playmates for children.

Visiting the Area

In and around Salcombe there is plenty to explore, from sandy beaches and dramatic coastal walks to charming waterside villages.
