Tucked along the High Street in Wells-next-the-Sea, The Old Bakery blends heritage character with an easy, modern style, offering a cosy and well-equipped place to stay by the coast. The building has been thoughtfully updated to suit contemporary living while still reflecting its past, giving guests a stay that feels both full of charm and comfortably up to date.
Inside, the accommodation includes an open-plan kitchen and dining area, a cosy lounge, two bedrooms and en-suite facilities. The kitchen, with its stripped wooden floor and lofted ceiling, features shaker-style units, a fridge-freezer and a dishwasher, with seating around a pine table for six to eight people. A washing machine and tumble dryer are conveniently located in an adjacent utility room.
The comfortable lounge is ideal for relaxing, with a gas-burning stove and a modern Smart TV, Blu-ray player, and a selection of films to enjoy. A range of classic family board games is also provided for cosy evenings in. Downstairs there is a shower room and toilet, while upstairs you’ll find a spacious bathroom.
The master bedroom has a four-poster double bed and built-in wardrobe storage. Just off this room, the bathroom features a large Fired Earth bath and a heated towel rail. The second bedroom offers two full-size single beds, along with under-bed storage, drawers and shelving.
Outside the stable door is a south-facing patio area with seating and a table, perfect for enjoying some fresh air. A brick outhouse provides useful storage for crab buckets, spades, and bikes. Wi-Fi is available throughout the property, although, like much of Wells, the connection can be slow. Free parking is available just 30 yards from the front door.
Set along a peaceful stretch at the lower end of the Old High Street in Wells-next-the-Sea, the cottage forms part of the town’s historic bakery buildings, giving it a real sense of local character. Even with its quiet position, you’re only moments from everything Wells has to offer, with the town’s highlights all within an easy walk. The quay is just a couple of minutes away, where fishing boats sit alongside waterside cafés, restaurants and welcoming pubs. The open green of the Buttlands and the shops and charm of Staithe Street are close by too, along with nature trails and coastal paths waiting to be explored. Free parking is conveniently available just 30 yards from the front door, making it easy to arrive, park up and enjoy your stay without needing to use the car.
