Set deep within the unspoilt landscapes of the Angus Glens, the Airlie Estate is a place where centuries of heritage meet outstanding natural beauty. Held by the Ogilvy family for generations, the estate is surrounded by rolling hills, ancient woodland and wide open countryside that feels timeless and serene. Wellbank Cottage sits quietly within the grounds, offering a tranquil retreat and an ideal starting point for discovering Angus, the glens and the wider Scottish Highlands.
Wellbank Cottage has been thoughtfully transformed into a single-storey hideaway full of personality, comfortably accommodating up to eight guests and three dogs across four bedrooms. Once part of a traditional steading, the cottage sits within a grand estate in the heart of the Angus Glens, where its secluded setting makes it an inspiring place for special gatherings, quiet escapes and days spent exploring the surrounding countryside on foot.
Inside, the cottage feels warm and welcoming, with freshly decorated interiors in soft, neutral shades and a careful blend of traditional furnishings and homely touches. A crackling open fire and an Aga lend a sense of timeless comfort, while subtle contemporary details such as atmospheric lighting and a well-appointed kitchen add modern ease without compromising the character of the space.
The lounge is an inviting retreat, perfect for unwinding in front of the fire with a book chosen from the cottage’s shelves. The kitchen is both practical and full of charm, combining sleek worktops and distinctive lighting with a dark wood floor, an Aga-style oven, an antique dresser and an eclectic mix of chairs that make it a relaxed spot for morning coffee or casual conversation. For evenings, the dining room offers a cosy and refined setting.
After a day outdoors, the bedrooms provide a restful sanctuary, each styled with soft, luxurious linens, gentle floral accents and carefully chosen artwork. The master bedroom features a king-size bed and en-suite bathroom, while the remaining three bedrooms share a spacious family bathroom. Two of the double rooms can also be arranged as twins if preferred.
Outside, the private garden opens onto sweeping views across the estate, with rolling lawns, mature trees and distant glimpses of the glens and surrounding Munros rising beyond. A furnished patio provides a lovely spot to relax with a drink as the light fades, while the wider estate offers winding paths where guests may spot wildlife such as red squirrels and a rich variety of birdlife.

The surrounding area is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts, with Glen Clova and Glen Doll close by, offering rugged mountain walks, tumbling waterfalls and abundant wildlife, as well as quieter paths through farmland and woodland. The town itself has a welcoming atmosphere, with independent shops, cafés and a strong sense of history, including its association with author J.M. Barrie.
