Summary

Neaum Crag is a private 18-acre woodland estate tucked beneath the crags of Loughrigg Fell at the mouth of the Langdale Valley, only three miles from Ambleside in the heart of the Lake District National Park. A collection of alpine-style timber lodges and two smart apartments sit quietly among mature pines and trickling becks, providing an atmospheric base for walkers, cyclists and anyone who simply wishes to slow down and breathe woodland air. All properties are individually owned but professionally managed on site, ensuring uniform standards of comfort while still retaining their own character.

A heated indoor swimming-pool and small sauna (open March–mid-November), Wi-Fi hub, coin-operated laundry, recycling point and ample parking are available to every guest and the Talbot Bar at Skelwith Bridge is a five-minute stroll for a post-walk pint.

Accommodation

Each self-catering lodge is fully equipped for a comfortable stay, with full central heating and double glazing throughout. Guests can enjoy a well-fitted kitchen, a shower room or bathroom, and a comfortable sitting and dining area with television and DVD. Every lodge also benefits from its own outdoor space, whether a deck, balcony or patio, complete with outdoor furniture. Bed linen and towels are provided for all guests, with the exception of pool towels.

Neaum Crag offers a wide range of accommodation set within peaceful woodland, from cosy one-bedroom lodges ideal for couples to larger family lodges sleeping up to six. Most lodges feature open-plan living spaces, modern bathrooms and private verandas or decks, many positioned to make the most of woodland views, natural light and nearby becks. Warm timber interiors are paired with contemporary touches, creating a relaxed alpine atmosphere suitable for both short breaks and longer stays.

The accommodation caters well for couples, families and small groups, with layouts that include en-suite bedrooms, bunk rooms for children, enclosed verandas for added peace of mind and pet-friendly options. A number of lodges have been recently refurbished and offer vaulted ceilings, floor-to-ceiling glazing, stylish shower rooms and cosy stove-style fires. Larger lodges provide generous living and dining areas, making them ideal for sociable holidays together.

Alongside the woodland lodges, Neaum Crag also offers two attractive apartments within the original farmhouse. These provide a more traditional setting combined with modern interiors, accessible layouts and private outdoor areas, offering a comfortable alternative for guests who prefer apartment-style accommodation within the same tranquil surroundings.

Visiting the Area

Step straight from your door onto footpaths that climb Loughrigg Fell, follow the River Brathay to Elterwater or link with the Cumbria Way. Ambleside, three miles away, provides outdoor shops, cafés and Zeffirelli’s cinema, while Grasmere, Hawkshead and Coniston are a short, scenic drive. Cruise Windermere from Waterhead Pier, hire a bike on the Langdale cycleway or discover Wordsworth’s Dove Cottage. Children will love the treetop nets at Brockhole, and food lovers can indulge at Chesters by the River, only a mile from the gate. After a day exploring, return to the peace of the estate, slip into the pool for a gentle swim, then toast the sunset from your deck as owls begin to call.
