Bridge House is an artist’s cottage in a peaceful rural setting, just ten minutes from the Port Askaig ferry terminal on the Isle of Islay. Located between Port Askaig and Bridgend, it offers excellent access to the island’s many attractions, from unspoilt beaches and birdwatching to whisky distilleries, historic fishing villages, cafés and pubs.
The cottage features a welcoming porch with traditional double doors, a cosy parlour filled with books and a sitting room with a wood-burning stove, TV, DVD player and WiFi. The spacious south-facing kitchen and dining room is well equipped for cooking and opens directly into the garden, making it ideal for enjoying meals outdoors.
Sleeping arrangements include a ground-floor single room with a three-quarter bed and two attic bedrooms – one twin and one double – each furnished with period pieces and modern comforts such as electric blankets and hairdryers. The ground-floor family bathroom has a large walk-in shower and washing machine. Heating is provided by electric storage heaters and a wood-burning stove, with electricity included in the weekly rate. Linen and towels are supplied, though guests should bring beach towels.
Outside, the large, enclosed garden has outdoor furniture and easy access to local walks. From the doorstep, you can head north to Loch Finlaggan with views of the Paps of Jura, or south across farmland and moorland where you may spot geese, hawks, herons and more.
From this central location, Islay’s diverse landscapes are within easy reach, including sandy beaches, dramatic cliffs and ancient woodlands. Activities range from walking, cycling and fishing to golf, diving and distillery tours. Local highlights include The Museum of Islay Life, The Wool Mill and RSPB Loch Gruinart, with the option of day trips to Colonsay or Jura. The cottage is also on the local bus route, making exploration even easier.
