Plas-Y-Berllan and Pen Lon Las are two distinctive self-catering properties, quietly tucked away at the end of a private driveway on the outskirts of St Dogmaels. The village sits on the banks of the River Teifi, with the historic market town of Cardigan just a mile downstream, offering a wide range of shops, cafés and local amenities. Set in a peaceful location yet close to everything you might need, this area provides an excellent base for exploring Pembrokeshire and the surrounding countryside.
This 19th-century workhouse has been sympathetically renovated to retain its original features and historic character, while also creating a comfortable and welcoming place to stay. The kitchen is well equipped with a gas and electric range cooker, dishwasher, large fridge freezer and microwave, along with ample pots, pans, crockery and cutlery to cater for larger groups. The dining room features a large table seating up to fourteen people, a coal-fired Rayburn that heats the water and upstairs radiators, and a television with Freeview channels. The lounge is furnished with a large comfortable sofa and additional seating, along with a wood-burning stove for cooler evenings. A utility room provides a washing machine, plenty of space for coats and outdoor gear and access to a downstairs toilet and shower room.
Upstairs, all bedrooms are fitted with their own sinks and enjoy lovely views over the estuary and surrounding fields. There are three double bedrooms and three twin bedrooms, one of which includes an additional pull-out bed if required. Two camp beds are also available for children, offering flexibility for family sleeping arrangements. The bathroom includes a deep bath with a hand-held shower, a toilet and a washbasin, and towels are provided for guests.
The enclosed courtyard garden offers a safe and secure space for children to play and for dogs to enjoy the outdoors. Sheltered and often sunny, it is a pleasant alternative on windier beach days. An extendable garden table with seating for twelve is provided, along with a barbecue, creating the perfect setting for relaxed evening meals outdoors.
This cosy retreat forms one of the single-storey wings attached to either end of Plas-Y-Berllan. Quietly positioned and full of character, it provides an ideal escape for a couple or a young family looking to unwind and enjoy a slower pace of life.
The galley kitchen is equipped with an electric cooker, washing machine and all necessary pots, pans, crockery and cutlery for up to four people. The shower room includes a shower, wash basin and toilet. The living area also features a double sofa bed, an easy chair arranged around the coal or wood-burning stove, a table and chairs for four, and a small fridge freezer, making the space both comfortable and practical for a relaxed stay.
At the far end of the living area is the double bedroom, which enjoys views over the front lawn reserved for the use of Pen Lon Las. This outdoor space is furnished with a table, chairs and a barbecue, offering a pleasant spot to relax and dine outdoors. The bedroom has been carefully restored to reveal its original stone wall and is furnished with a double bed, wardrobe and chest of drawers.
From the living space there are views across the large courtyard garden, which can be accessed when the property is rented together with Plas-Y-Berllan.
You can rent Plas-Y-Berllan with Pen Lon Las to make combined accommodation for up to 16 and share the courtyard.
Set in its own sheltered valley overlooking the Teifi Estuary, the property enjoys a peaceful yet well-connected location. The village of St Dogmaels, with its historic abbey, working water mill, shops, pubs and eateries, is just a short walk along the riverside path, while the market town of Cardigan lies about a mile away. The Blue Flag beach at Poppit is even closer, offering a wide sandy shoreline and safe bathing, with opportunities for surfing in the right conditions. Perfectly placed for exploring the northern Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, the coastal path begins at the end of the drive, and day trips can easily be made north to Aberystwyth, east to the Cambrian Mountains or south to Fishguard and St Davids.
If you have your own boat or canoe, there is a public slipway about 100m from the drive up to Albro.
