Unspoilt and charming, Rutland is England's smallest county. With its historic market towns, gentle rolling hills and quintessential English Villages it really is the place to relax and get away from it all.
Small is beautiful, and certainly Rutland lives up to its maxim. Rutland County measures just sixteen miles square in area, where the countryside has since little changed since medieval times, apart from the vast Rutland Water reservoir. Rutland is a little piece of old England, hidden away in the very heart of England. Its a place where Kings once hunted deer in the valleys, where tiny villages were bequeathed to Mercian Queens and where charming thatched cottages, ancient churches fine Georgian architecture are all reminiscent of a bygone age.
Uppingham is an attractive market town with numerous pubs/restaurants all offering a varied menu and a warm welcoming approach. They serve a rare mix of good sized portions using fresh and often local ingredients.
Uppingham is also famous for its independent school and some well known ex pupils including Stephen Fry brings many cultural opportunities to the town for the residents and guests to enjoy. Within the town centre are a good range of shops catering for most needs together with various services including doctors, dentist, opticians, chemist and library.
Richil House is perfectly placed for those who enjoy outdoor activities. Its less than ten minutes from Rutland Water which offers fishing, cycling, sailing, bir watching and walking.
Other places of interest are the Butterfly park, Burghley House, Barnsdale Garden Centre and the Nene Valley Railway.
