Visiting Tring & Exploring HertfordshireTring is a historic market town and is recorded as far back as the doomsday book. It is in a beautiful part of the Chiltern Hills, which are designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The town was built up in the 1800's utilising the canal, which to this day remains fully functional for narrowboat accommodation and minor boat building industry.
Tring and the surrounding area has lots of excellent attractions for all the family to enjoy. This includes:
Waddesdon Manor - Only a 20 minute drive away, Waddesdon Manor is visited by over 500,000 people a year and is probably the most popular manor house mansion and ancient residence in the UK.
Berkhamsted Castle - This was built around 1085 and is part of the National Trust. It was the first building ever to be fully protected by heritage legislation from the UK government and was the venue where William the Conqueror was given the English Kingdom. Berkhamsted Castle also has the honor of being the best surviving motte & bailey castle in the UK.
Ashridge Park - Full of ancient trees, rolling chalk downlands and lush meadows, this huge park makes for a wonderful day out.
Natural History Museum - The Natural History Museum was built in 1889 and houses a collection of wonderful artefacts. The local history museum is a great place to learn about the history of the area.
Puddingstone Distillery - This is Hertfordshire's first gin distillery and home to the award winning Campfire Gin. The popular tasting tour evenings are run on Thursday nights.
Once you have spent your energy exploring the Chiltern Hills, you will find that Tring is home to a variety of bars, eateries and cafes for you to visit.
