Manton Lodge Self-Catering provides a peaceful countryside escape with two stylish and comfortable apartments set within rural Rutland, just a short walk from Rutland Water. Positioned within the southern wing of an 18th-century ironstone farmhouse, the apartments combine modern design with historic charm and feature their own private entrances for added privacy. Surrounded by beautifully maintained gardens that are part of the National Garden Scheme and set within over 100 acres of rolling pasture, the setting offers a true sense of space and tranquillity. With direct access to the Rutland Water cycle path and easy walking distance to the south shore, it’s an ideal base for both relaxation and outdoor activities.
Set within the south-facing wing of the house, the recently refurbished apartment offers a bright and exceptionally comfortable self-catering retreat. Located on the first floor, it enjoys far-reaching views across the Chater Valley to the south and west, as well as overlooking the lodge’s beautifully kept gardens. The apartment is spacious, filled with natural light and finished to a high standard throughout, with full central heating ensuring year-round comfort. Accommodation includes a bedroom with a super king bed that can also be arranged as twin beds, a cosy sitting area and a well equipped galley kitchen featuring a microwave, tabletop hob, combination microwave and convection oven and a washing machine. There is also an ensuite bathroom and the apartment comfortably sleeps two guests, with the option of a sofa bed to accommodate a third. A flat-screen TV and free WiFi are provided for added convenience.
Located in the south-facing wing of the house, the recently refurbished Garden Apartment is a stylish and comfortable ground-floor self-catering space designed for a relaxing stay. Bright and generously proportioned, it is finished to a high standard throughout and benefits from full central heating, with direct access onto a terrace that overlooks the gardens. The apartment accommodates two guests and features a bedroom with a super king bed that can be arranged as twins if needed, a fully equipped kitchen-diner and a spacious ensuite bathroom. Two flat-screen TVs and complimentary WiFi are provided and for larger groups, an additional first-floor double bedroom with its own ensuite bathroom may also be available on request at an extra cost.
One of the standout features of the property is its enchanting garden, carefully nurtured over more than four decades by the current owners and regularly opened to visitors through the National Garden Scheme. Guests are welcome to wander through its terraces and pathways or simply unwind on one of the many benches dotted throughout the space. With its ornamental pond, mature specimen trees and an abundance of colourful planting, the garden is a peaceful retreat filled with fragrance and wildlife, particularly birds. Beyond this, the landscape opens out into the gently rolling countryside of the Chater Valley, where a network of private walks leads through open fields and quiet wooded areas across the estate.
Manton Lodge is perfectly positioned for discovering the charm of Rutland and its surrounding attractions. Just a short walk away lies Rutland Water, one of Europe’s largest man-made lakes, renowned for trout fishing, birdwatching and its nature reserves.
