Summary

St Andrews House in Fort William was designed in the 1880s by renowned Scottish architect Alexander Ross and is one of the town’s oldest listed buildings. Originally a rectory and choir school for St Andrews Church, it features striking Gothic architecture with stone carvings, stained glass windows and rich pitch pine interiors. Built from granite brought from Abriachan Quarry via the Caledonian Canal, the house has been carefully restored to offer a unique and luxurious self-catering retreat in the Highlands.

Surrounded by generous landscaped gardens and within easy walking distance of Fort William’s town centre, St Andrews House has been carefully transformed into two elegant and spacious holiday homes. Overlooking Loch Linnhe, the property enjoys beautiful, far-reaching views that create a striking backdrop to any stay.

Each residence offers large, stylish living and dining spaces, fully equipped kitchens and comfortable en-suite bedrooms designed for both relaxation and convenience. Guests can also unwind in private leisure facilities, including a sauna and Jacuzzi, perfect after a day exploring the Highlands. Blending historic character with modern comfort, the house provides a welcoming and memorable retreat in an exceptional setting.

The East Wing

The East Wing has been designed to offer a relaxed country-style stay, featuring four spacious bedrooms with a mix of super-king, double and single beds. One double bedroom is conveniently located on the ground floor alongside a shared bathroom, while upstairs there are three generously sized en-suite bedrooms. Guests can enjoy bright, open living spaces with sweeping views over Loch Linnhe, the surrounding Highlands and the town below, along with a large dining area, fully equipped kitchen and separate laundry room. This wing is also pet-friendly, making it ideal for those travelling with dogs. A standout feature is the elevated outdoor Jacuzzi, which offers privacy alongside stunning views of the loch and hills, while an adjoining recreational space includes a sauna, table tennis, board games and cosy seating areas, creating a perfect blend of traditional charm and modern comfort for a memorable stay.

The West Wing

The West Wing offers a spacious and characterful Highland retreat, combining rustic charm with the comfort of a well-appointed self-catering home. Designed with groups in mind, it features generous living and dining areas on the ground floor, with high ceilings and views across the landscaped gardens and Loch Linnhe. A fully equipped kitchen and separate laundry room make it ideal for longer stays, while upstairs there are three large en-suite bedrooms with a mix of super-king and double beds. Original features such as stained glass windows, carved sandstone and granite columns reflect the building’s historic, cathedral-inspired design and add to its distinctive charm. The property also includes a private recreational space with board games and family-friendly activities, along with an indoor Jacuzzi, sauna and shower, providing a relaxing sanctuary to unwind and enjoy the peaceful pace of Highland living.

Visiting the Area

Fort William is a fantastic base for exploring some of Scotland’s most iconic landscapes and attractions. Dominated by Ben Nevis, the UK’s highest mountain, the area is perfect for walking, hiking and climbing, while nearby Glen Nevis offers breathtaking scenery, woodland trails and waterfalls including the impressive Steall Falls. Visitors can also enjoy a stroll along Neptune's Staircase on the Caledonian Canal, or take a ride on the famous Jacobite Steam Train, which crosses the stunning Glenfinnan Viaduct. For those looking to venture further, the scenic Road to the Isles leads to beautiful beaches and coastal views, while the surrounding Highlands provide endless opportunities for wildlife spotting, photography and outdoor adventure.
