Visiting the Area

With Exmoor right on your doorstep, there’s no shortage of outdoor activities, from walking and hiking to fishing, pony trekking and horse riding. Children will love the chance to explore nature up close and after a day of adventure, you can return to the cottage and soak in the tranquil surroundings.

The coast is just 16 miles away and there is direct access to the moor from the village. The Royal Oak Inn, a traditional pub, is only a two-minute walk from the cottage. Withypool itself has a well-stocked village shop, a post office, and a popular tearoom open from spring to late autumn. Located next to a pair of rare early 20th-century Shell petrol pumps, believed to be the last of their kind in the UK. The village is also the starting point for several breathtaking walks. A four-mile riverside stroll takes you to the ancient clapper bridge at Tarr Steps, set within a beautiful nature reserve. You can also walk to the medieval Landacre Bridge via the Two Moors Way, enjoying sweeping views of the National Park and spotting Exmoor ponies along the way. The Exe Valley Way also runs through Withypool, offering more scenic walking routes, including a northern path to Exford with lovely views of the River Exe.

The Old Chapel combines comfort, charm and thoughtful details to create a truly memorable Exmoor escape.
