Summary

Enjoy a relaxing home-from-home escape at Far Horizons Holiday Cottages, tucked away in the quiet village of Sliddery on the picturesque Isle of Arran. Set within the peaceful grounds of Ivy Cottage Farm, a former sea-farm on the island’s southwest coast, these stone-built self-catering cottages combine traditional character with modern comforts and a hint of luxury. Surrounded by stunning views of the sea and rolling valleys, Far Horizons offers an idyllic retreat where you can unwind and enjoy the natural beauty of Arran at your own pace.

The Blacksmith's Bothy

Once the site of a working forge, the Blacksmith’s Bothy has been beautifully rebuilt to blend its historic charm with modern comfort. Perfect for couples or small families, it accommodates up to four guests and features warm oak furnishings, leather seating, a wood-burning stove and electric heating for year-round comfort. The open-plan lounge and dining area welcomes you with sea-facing views, a circular oak table and a fully equipped kitchen including an LPG hob, electric oven, microwave, fridge, washer/dryer and dishwasher. The ground floor also includes a spacious bathroom, while upstairs an oak spiral staircase leads to two cosy bedrooms, one with a king-size bed, the other with twin beds. There is also a small toilet with a washbasin. Outside, guests can relax in an enclosed garden with a sitting area and enjoy the peaceful setting of Arran Far Horizons.

The Ploughman's Bothy

This is a pet-friendly offering accommodation for up to four guests. Accessed via steps from the parking area, the cottage opens onto a raised patio with stunning views of the Corriecravie valley. Inside, the lounge features leather sofas, a Smart TV and a DVD player set into an old fireplace beneath an exposed stone wall. A spiral staircase separates the lounge from the fully equipped kitchen and leads to two bedrooms, one double and one twin, both with valley views. The dining area, with a glass-topped table and sea views, includes a wood-burning stove and underfloor heating for added comfort. The kitchen has everything needed for a self-catered stay and the ground-floor bathroom offers a full-size bath with a shower and modern amenities. Outside, guests can relax at the picnic table on the patio and enjoy the peaceful scenery, with easy access from the convenient parking area.

The Hayshed

The cottage is converted from a former agricultural store, retaining its original stone walls and offering a warm, family-friendly holiday cottage for up to four adults and two children under 10. This cottage is dog-friendly by arrangement. Set in a south-facing garden within the old farm courtyard, the cottage is accessed via steps or a wheelchair ramp leading to a raised patio with a picnic area. Inside, the open-plan ground floor features a lounge with a wood-burning stove, a dining area with stunning views over Kilbrannan Sound and Corriecravie valley and a fully equipped kitchen. A downstairs bedroom with a king-size bed and an accessible bathroom with underfloor heating and level-entry shower make it suitable for guests with mobility needs. Upstairs are two bedrooms, one twin and one double, offering a quiet and comfortable space to unwind.

Visiting the Area

The cottages are just a 15-minute walk from the rocky shore, along a peaceful farm track that winds through fields often dotted with sheep, cattle and the occasional hare. The walk offers chances to spot birds of prey, migrating birds, seals and even otters by the water. Ideal for outdoor enthusiasts, the area is perfect for walking, cycling, kayaking, golf, and beachcombing. The cottages are conveniently located just 2 miles from Lagg Distillery and the historic Lagg Inn and 4 miles from Blackwaterfoot, where you’ll find shops, a garage, the Kinloch Hotel and Bar, a sandy beach and the famous 12-hole Shiskine Golf Course.
