The Cottage Burnhopeside Hall in Lanchester near Durham, offers wonderful self catering accommodation in a charming cottage and cosy top floor apartment. We are the perfect place to escape to from the hustle and bustle of modern life.


Our stunning self catering cottage is part of the magnificent Burnhopeside Hall and the cottage offers all the modern comforts expected of high quality accommodation whilst retaining its original character. The cottage sleeps up to 4 people in 2 beamed bedrooms with large beds and big windows. There is also gleaming walk in showers (one has a roll top bath). A third bedroom comes with a cosy log effect fire and elegant original fireplace.

Downstairs gorgeous French windows from the sitting room open onto the grounds where you can wander around the splendid gardens, farm and woodland. There is also a modern and fully equipped kitchen, dining table and leather sofas and TV by the grand fireplace. Wood is provided but the cottage is well heated by wood chip boiler too.

We can cook breakfast and dinner for you and much of the food will come from the estate please enquire for details.

We also offer superb accommodation on the top floor of Burnhopeside Hall, a Grade II listed building of historical interest, having been the home of the famous engineer William Hedley. The self catering apartment sleeps up to 2 people and is perfect for a romantic break away please enquire for details.

Local Area

We are located 6.5 miles west of Durham City, a World Heritage Site and Newcastle & Gateshead are 16 miles north. They offer excellent restaurants and The Sage & Theatre Royal. Hadrian's Wall is an easy distance and there are a number of local golf courses in the surrounding area. On the Estate, we can stable your horses, kennel your dogs and provide shooting days. A number of good hunting packs are within driving distance and on our doorstep. We can arrange walking with birds of prey.

Beamish Museum.
Hadrian's Wall & Roman Forts.
