The Old Higher Lighthouse is situated in Portland near Weymouth in Dorset. The lighthouse has four cottages within its grounds and it is Branscombe Lodge Cottage, a beautifully restored old paraffin store, which is available for holiday lets.
Also available is Stopes cottage, which originally was the lighthouse keeperís accommodation. It has 2 bedrooms and all on ground floor level. It is attached to the lighthouse via a corridor. Double glazed with central heating. Cosy and comfortable.
AccommodationSitting almost on Portland Bill, Branscombe Lodge Cottage is peacefully situated up a quiet track and offers spectacular views from the lighthouse tower. It's ideal for walkers, ornithologists, photographers or those just wanting to get away from it all.
First FloorTo make the most of the fantastic sea views the upper floor of the cottage is given over entirely to a large sitting room with windows on all four sides. If you can tear yourself away from the views then there is a television, DVD player and small library.
Ground FloorOn the ground floor is one double and one twin bedroom which are bright and comfortably furnished. The kitchen has a full size electric cooker, fridge, microwave, washing machine and tumble dyer and is well equipped with all the necessities of a home from home. The bathroom has a bath with shower over. Heating is £1 and cooking is supplied by electricity and is paid for via a coin meter.
OutsideThe gardens have ornamental fishponds and garden furniture with a barbecue for those balmy days that Dorset gets more than its fair share of! Guests have access to the lighthouse tower observatory where they can sit and watch the fabulous sunsets while sipping their favourite tipple, or view even further out through the gun sight binoculars.
There is a Jacuzzi & a solar heated seasonal pool which is seasonal. The cottages are always kept very clean.

Local AreaOur beautiful cottages are fortunate to be in Portland, allowing you to enjoy walking along the stunning coastline. The Island is also a magnet for bird watches, where some the rarest species are to be discovered.
Sport lovers have an abundance of choice, with diving, wind and kite surfing, fishing and horse riding just some of the activities to choose from.
A wonderful attraction to visit is Tout Quarry, which has recently been transformed into a unique park or visit the nearby Culverwell Mesolithic site and delve into the islandís archaeology.
