Open the door of Porth y Dŵr and find the Secret House hidden inside! Dating from 1456, this timber framed building retains many of its original features, but is now a unique and fascinating self-catering cottage like no other. Enjoy the morning sun in the Tudor panelled bedchamber, relax in front of an open fire in the cosy lounge, play traditional games or browse through the books in the snug. This historic building deserves to be appreciated slowly and thoughtfully, like a vintage wine - stay at the Secret House and leave the modern world behind!

Accommodation

Porth y Dŵr has a spacious double bedroom with king size bed, an additional bed can be provided by request (extra charge applies). The second bedroom has 2 single beds Cot and high chair available.

Downstairs there is an open plan living/dining room which includes underfloor heating, dining table and an open fire. The kitchen is well equipped with an oven, microwave, fridge, washing machine, kettle, toaster and iron/ironing board.

Outside there is a small front garden, and a separate sunny courtyard with seating.

On arrival you will receive a welcome pack which will include tea, coffee, milk and biscuits.

Location

The market town of Ruthin, in the beautiful Vale of Clwyd, is steeped in history, with its medieval castle and streets filled with quirky old buildings, yet the town is not lost in the past. Alongside its historic visitor attractions including Nantclwyd y Dre and Ruthin Gaol – a Gruelling Experience! – it is home to Ruthin Craft Centre, Wales’ premier centre for the applied arts. There are a range of places to eat, independent shops to explore, and friendly pubs.

Surrounding Ruthin is stunning countryside which is ideal for walking, hiking and mountain biking. Safe sandy beaches along the North Wales coast, and the spectacular scenery of Snowdonia, with a huge range of exciting outdoor activities, are within easy reach, as is the historic city of Chester – a shopaholic’s dream.
