Summary

Brown Dyke Stables is a wonderful self catering holiday cottage just outside the village of Scaleby. Our cottage near Carlisle was created from former stables dating back to the 18th Century. We are the perfect base to explore this beautiful part of Cumbria.

Accommodation

Our cottage sleeps up to 6 people and is perfect for a family break away. You can enjoy beautiful views over rolling countryside towards the North Pennines.

The large and luxurious kitchen comes with a microwave, dishwasher, washer/dryer and large fridge with freezer. The spacious lounge comes with a multi-fuel fire, large comfy sofas, flat-screen TV, DVD player and Freeview.

Three spacious bedrooms are available. Two bedrooms have double beds and one bedroom has twin beds (or a king-size bed, depending on your requirements). All the bedrooms come with luxurious en suite bathrooms (2 with wet rooms). Downstairs there is a toilet and cloakroom.

Outside is a patio with table, chairs and barbeque.

This cottage is very cosy and comes with central heating and double glazing. We also provide a welcome hamper which includes as much local produce as possible.

Visiting Scaleby & Exploring Cumbria

We are an excellent base for exploring the local area. You can visit many historic attractions and several fantastic walks/cycle routes are nearby. The famous Hadrianís Wall marking the northern border of the former Roman Empire is only 2 miles away. The widely recognised best parts of the Roman Wall are near Haltwhistle.

Bus and train routes go towards the market town of Hexham, historic Corbridge and the city of Newcastle. To the west, you will find the historic city of Carlisle with its castle, cathedral and Tullie House (Border Reivers) Museum. The area is known for its excellent shopping and restaurants. Several major walking routes such as the Hadrian's Wall Path Trail and the Pennine Way pass through the area. Cycle routes such as the Coast to Coast and the Hadrian's Wall Cycle Way (South Shields to Ravenglass) are perfect for keen cyclists.

The Eden Valley is just a few minutesí drive away and is superb for fishing. We are also only 40 minutesí drive from Caldbeck in the Lake District National Park. Sports such as dinghy sailing, canoeing, rowing and windsurfing are all available locally at Talkin Tarn Country Park. Fishing is also allowed at the tarn. Why not take in a day at the races? Carlisle Race Course is only a short drive away from us. Getting married at Gretna Green? Why not stay in luxury at Brown Dykes Stables? We're only a few miles away.

Whether it is walking, cycling, horse riding, windsurfing, sailing, canoeing or mountain biking, there is always something for everyone in this part of Cumbria.
