Summary

A traditional cottage, with stunning views, modernised and well furnished and standing in its own large grounds. Ideally situated above the centre of the quiet village of Dooega, overlooking the beach and harbour, facing south, with views to the Atlantic Drive, Clew Bay, Clare Island and mountains and islands beyond. You can walk through the meadow below and be on the beautiful Blue Flag beach in a few minutes or stroll to the river to fish for brown trout. Behind is the mountain of Minaun, from the top of which you can see right across the rest of the island.

Micky’s Bar (at Lavelle’s Seaside House) is only a short walk away. The main shopping centre is at Achill Sound (14kms) but there is a smaller shop, garage and pub at 6kms.

Activities available on the island include all kinds of surfing, diving and other water sports, walking, golf and cycling, painting, archaeology, birdwatching, traditional music sessions and multiple opportunities for photography. Or you can just relax, slow down and enjoy the peace and the beauty of Achill.

The accommodation is ideal for a small family or two couples and is laid out as follows:

From the entrance porch you go through the original red front door into the living room, which has a south facing picture window, an open fire, comfortable sofa and chairs and an old dresser, complete with delft. The TV/DVD player is complemented by books, games and jigsaws.
To the left is the main bedroom, with a double and a single bed, and to the right the twin bedroom, both with sea facing windows and equipped with electric wall radiators.
Through what was once the rear doorway of the house you enter the modern, light, well equipped kitchen (electric fan oven, gas hob, fridge-freezer, dishwasher).
Then the utility area, which has a sink, washing machine and tumble dryer and a little window looking towards Minaun.
The main bathroom has a bath with electric shower, basin and WC and there is a separate bathroom with WC and basin.
There are storage heaters in the living room, kitchen, utility area and bathroom and electric wall heaters in the bedrooms (which can provide instant heat). A separate portable oil-filled radiator can be used for extra heat where needed.

All rooms have ample electric power points (220/240 volts). Calor gas is supplied and electricity is included in the rent.

Blankets and pillows are provided. Guests bring own linen, unless pre-booked (for which there is a separate charge), and towels.

Rates: €350 to €550 per week depending on season.
