Summary

North Lodge is our lovingly restored detached riverside cottage in the West Highland village of Ford which lies at the southern end of Loch Awe about 4 miles east of Kilmartin off the Lochgilphead to Oban road. Sleeping up to two people, we are the perfect retreat for a solo traveller or a couple who want a break away from the hustle and bustle of modern-day living.

About North Lodge Cottage

The holiday cottage has ‘total electric heating’ which allows cheap rate off-peak electricity for the storage heaters in the hall, kitchen and sitting room and for the water immersion heater in the hot water cylinder.

It has a traditional cosy cottage feel throughout, ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable stay is had by all. Facilities available at this holiday cottage:

Sitting room down 3 steps to fully fitted kitchen.
SKY Flat-screen TV / DVD player / Video Recorder.
CD Player inc MP3 input.
Fridge freezer.
Dishwasher.
Washing machine.
Microwave.
Bed linen.
Wood burning stove in the sitting room.

The cheap rate electricity may be used at any time to boost the heating whether or not the storage heaters are switched on by using the convector heaters forming part of the large storage heaters.

The bedroom has a 2KW wall mounted convector operating on cheap rate electricity which may be controlled manually, by a thermostat or by time clock according to individual preference. The bathroom is heated by a wall-mounted fan heater and heated towel rail.

Again using cheap rate electricity, a manual boost to the water heater is possible at any time of day. The cottage is fully insulated, and we are usually too warm rather than cold (even in the depths of winter). All electricity to be paid for at cost from meter readings after deduction of free allowance of £15 per week or £5 per short break Logs for fire included.

There is a summerhouse and decking area for guests use.

Visiting Ford & Exploring Argyll

The cottage, formerly the lodge at the entrance to the Ederline Estate in Ford, is ideally situated for holidaymakers to enjoy a wide range of outdoor activities including walking, riding, boating or fishing.

This part of Scotland is rich in history with many castles to explore and the early Celtic remains which are all around with the spectacular burial sites around Kilmartin which now has a fine visitor and Interpretive Centre. Cross the ‘Bridge over the Atlantic’ to Seil Island and go on to explore the Isle of Luing or visit Easdale Island with its small museum. Oban is within easy reach with the opportunity for day trips to the inner Isles of Mull and Iona.
