Marden Down Holiday Cottages in West Marden offers outstanding self catering accommodation in 2 well-equipped cottages in West Sussex. Based near Chichester in a truly relaxing countryside location and boasting stunning views, we are the perfect holiday destination.
The Stable AnnexeOur wonderful cottage sleeps up to 4 people and has been thoughtfully decorated over 2 doors. There is also a delightful walled patio with seating that overlooks our pony paddock and the South Downs. This the perfect spot to relax with a morning coffee or a glass of wine in the evening.
On the ground floor, there is a delightful open plan solid oak kitchen, dining area and lounge, with a tiled floor and tribal ‘Persian’ rug. The open plan kitchen/dining room includes a granite worktop, electric oven and halogen hob with extractor hood, dishwasher, microwave oven, larder fridge, kettle, toaster, plenty of worktops and cupboard space, vacuum cleaner and iron/board in understairs cupboard, washing machine, freezer. The dining room has a dining table that comfortably seats at least 4 on solid wood chairs.
A beautifully appointed lounge conservatory with a glass roof and full height windows overlook the patio. There are relaxing sofa and chairs, coffee tables and large flat-screen TV. Laminate wood floor with large tribal rug. Double doors to large York stone patio area with large outdoor table, bench and chairs for al fresco dining. Lawned garden with fantastic views across our paddock to the rolling downs.
Bedroom 1 includes a double bed with 2 bedside cabinets, wardrobe, chest of drawers and 2 roof lights with blinds. Bedroom 2 includes 2 single beds with bedside cabinet, chest of drawers and hanging space. Stunning views from this room over our paddock, farmland and the South Downs. Both rooms share a bathroom which has a bath with shower over, WC, washbasin, heated towel rail.
Gardener’s CottageThe excellent holiday home was originally built as gardener’s accommodation by Lord Durham who owned and lived in the manor house next door. The AA 4 star rated cottage sleeps up to 4 people and has been tastefully furnished. The relaxing and comfortable holiday home also has a pretty south-facing garden to unwind in.
The ground floor is tiled throughout with strategically placed antique Persian rugs to add that homely feel. A delightful solid oak kitchen has a built under oven and ceramic hob, stainless steel sink and drainer, dishwasher, fridge, microwave oven, kettle and toaster. Unwind in the lounge; this bright sunny south-facing room has windows overlooking the front and side lawn and out onto a grass field and woodland. The focal point of the lounge is a new wood burner which has a large glass door. Facilities include a built-in alcove cupboard with flatscreen TV (Netflix) and comfy seating.
The lounge narrows to the dining area which has a 4-6 seat dining table, and is next to the kitchen so that the ‘cook’ doesn’t feel lonely!
Upstairs there are two bedrooms and a bathroom. Bedroom 1 has 2 single beds, 2 bedside cupboards and reading lamps and 2 chests of drawers. There is an under-eaves cupboard to store your luggage. This is a south-facing room with lovely views over the front garden, fields and woodland. Bedroom 2 has a double bed, 2 bedside cabinets and reading lamps and a wardrobe. There is also an under-eaves cupboard to store more luggage. There are fabulous views over our paddock, fields and the rolling Downs. The bathroom is fully tiled with a bath and power shower over, washbasin and cabinet and WC. A heated towel rail and underfloor heating add that little touch of luxury.
Visiting West Marden & Exploring West SussexThere is a huge network of footpaths and bridleways running from the property, and the area abounds with wildlife. We regularly see deer, foxes, badgers and buzzards from the garden, and you might just meet the village peacocks. The village pub serves a range of beers and excellent food (we can vouch for this!) and is only a short walk away. A small shop and post office, playground/tennis court and the church can be found in Compton, less than a mile up the road. Further attractions to visit include:
