Local Area

Aldeburgh is a quaint seaside town, unspoilt by modern times, whose predominantly shingle beach stretches for a considerable distance and shelves quite steeply to the sea. There are also sandy areas of the beach which are particularly exposed at low tide. A wide open promenade runs alongside, at beach level, passing many of Aldeburgh’s distinctive attractions – The Moot hall, lookout towers, lifeboat station etc, – offering extensive views up the coastline to Thorpeness and down to Orford Ness.

Golf, Sailing, bird watching, walking or just plain relaxing, leisurely activities may include interesting sub 30 minute walks to Thorpeness or perhaps the Martello tower on the beach, boat trips on the River Alde, a round of golf at Aldeburgh or Thorpeness Golf Clubs, or visits to the English Heritage castles at Orford and Framlingham, or many other Heritage coasts little treasures.

The whole area is a excellent for birdwatching including Walberswick National Nature Reserve, Dunwich Forest, Orfordness, the Hen Reedbeds near Southwold, Blythburgh estuary and of course the world famous RSPB reserve at Minsmere.
