Summary

Ellicombe Manor’s holiday cottages are set within Exmoor along Somerset’s beautiful South West coastline, surrounded by striking scenery that creates a truly restorative escape. The four distinctive cottages are tucked within the grounds of Ellicombe Manor, a Grade II listed 16th-century house and each one provides a comfortable retreat designed to feel like a home away from home. Guests can wander through the lush sub-tropical gardens, spend time with the resident animals, or simply unwind beside the heated outdoor swimming pool.

Chapel Cottage

Tucked just off the lane, Chapel Cottage is a characterful and intimate retreat full of charm and unique touches. The cosy lounge opens out to a private, enclosed garden that enjoys plenty of southern sunshine, while the historic 16th-century chapel door remains as a distinctive feature. A spacious separate kitchen with a dining area overlooks the Manor’s lawn and a spiral staircase leads up to a light-filled main double bedroom with its own en-suite shower room. For added flexibility, there is also a comfortable double sofa bed in the sitting room downstairs.

Grooms Cottage

Covered in vibrant Virginia creeper, Grooms Cottage is a beautifully converted Grade II listed retreat that can host up to four guests. The upper floor features a main double bedroom and a twin room, with a shower room conveniently set between them, while downstairs you’ll find a spacious open-plan lounge and dining area alongside a separate kitchen. Outside, a private seating spot looks out over the main courtyard, creating an ideal place for barbecues and evenings spent under the stars.

The Old Coach House

The Old Coach House is a secluded retreat designed with couples in mind, featuring patio doors that lead onto a private, enclosed terrace that enjoys plenty of southern sun. Inside, the vaulted ceiling and exposed beams create a warm, inviting atmosphere, making it a peaceful hideaway tucked out of sight. The main double bedroom includes its own dressing area, with a bathroom conveniently located nearby, and just off the living space is a compact yet well-equipped kitchen with all you need to prepare anything from a simple meal to something special.

Stables Cottage

Stables Cottage enjoys views towards the manor house draped in wisteria and can accommodate up to four guests, with a main double bedroom and a twin room served by a family bathroom. Set on one level, the cottage features an open-plan living, kitchen, and dining space, where oak-panelled walls and exposed beams add warmth and character to the interior.

We also have a chalet available at Dunster beach, see our website for details.

Pool & Grounds

Guests can enjoy our heated swimming pool, open from May through September, while the gardens remain accessible all year as we continue restoring them to their former splendour. The grounds offer plenty to explore, including a fire pit, swing set, picnic bench, large outdoor chess set and tucked-away corners that are perfect for summer picnics, family games, or relaxing with a drink at sunset. There are also opportunities to meet and help feed the friendly goats and sheep — including the well-known Jock — or take a peaceful walk with the dogs through the orchard, making it an ideal countryside escape for visitors of all ages.

Visiting the Area

Minehead is a fantastic base for exploring the best of Somerset and Exmoor, with plenty to see and do nearby. Stroll along Minehead’s seafront and harbour, ride the historic West Somerset Railway, or head into Exmoor National Park for dramatic moorland, coastal cliffs and scenic walking trails. The picturesque village of Porlock and the steep Porlock Hill are just a short drive away, while Dunster offers a beautiful medieval castle, yarn market and charming cobbled streets. For coastal views, wildlife spotting, and traditional seaside charm, the surrounding area has something for everyone.
