Summary

The Old Carthouse is an established family run and maintained cottage offering comfortable accommodation for 2 people in the heart of Wensleydale. We welcome your dog at no extra charge. The private patio and our garden are both dog friendly. From the cottage windows there are outstanding views across the Dale, beautiful in almost any weather, the constantly changing light enhancing the experience.

Accommodation

The galleried bedroom occupies the entire first floor with plenty of storage space. The double bed has king size bedding for added comfort and we can offer a cot, travel cot, toddler bed or camp bed on request at no extra charge. Downstairs the bathroom has a shower over the bath.

There is a roomy drying area under the stairs for those caught out by the weather. The kitchen, dining and sitting areas are open plan. The kitchen is well equipped and includes a fridge, freezer, electric cooker, microwave and slow cooker, leave your evening meal prepared and on your return from a tiring day out and it will be ready.

The central heating is oil fired and all electricity and heating costs are included as are towels and bed linen.

Other Facilities

We have provided a selection of books, both local interest and general, games, maps and leaflets. For any further information or ideas please don’t hesitate to knock on our door. We’re always pleased to help if we can. We have free Wi-Fi and most mobiles receive a strong signal. The TV is Freeview and we have a selection of DVDs.

Guests have an enclosed drive and patio though parking is best roadside immediately outside the cottage on a fairly quiet lane.

You also have use of our large garden with plenty of seating and a gas barbecue is available.

Winter breaks are available for October to the end of April; Winter can be as beautiful as Summer and the cottage offers a cosy warm retreat.

Short breaks in Summer may be available at short notice Rates are £330-£380 per week, £55 per night for 2-5 nights. Special offers may be available from time to time.

Local Area

There is a wide network of walks directly from the door, to suit all ages and abilities. For those who like to explore further there are many sights within driving distance, including The Lakeside, the North East and the Borders.

The towns and cities of Harrogate, York, Durham and Newcastle are all within an easy day trip. Most of the local villages have pubs, hotels and tearooms using local produce wherever possible. Many are recommended by previous guests.

Swaledale, Wharfedale, Nidderdale and Teasdale with their tributary Dales all offer walks, attractions and eating places. Fountains Abbey with Studley Royal deer park, Brimham Rocks, the Three Peaks, Tan Hill Pub to name just a few. Waterfalls are numerous especially after rain.

The village of Aysgarth has a TI centre with a cafe, 2 further tearooms, 2 hotels, petrol station, garage workshop and a well stocked general store selling local produce.
