Old Forge Cottage is a stunning, dog-friendly four bedroom townhouse set in the picturesque market town of Ross-on-Wye, only a few minutes’ walk from the riverside, tea shops and pubs.
The ground floor begins with an entrance area equipped with hooks for coats and dog leads, along with a tray for muddy boots. A cosy snug offers a sofa, armchairs, a smart TV and DVD player, creating the perfect place to retreat with a book or for children to enjoy their own programmes while dinner is being prepared. French doors open from here onto the patio. The open-plan lounge, dining and kitchen space is warm and welcoming, ideal for families or groups of friends. The lounge, with its wooden flooring and oak beams, features two comfortable sofas, an armchair, a 55-inch smart TV, and a gas log-effect fire that sets the mood for winter evenings or relaxing after a riverside walk. The dining area centres around a large farmhouse table with handcrafted bench seating and chairs, and a highchair is available for younger guests. Garden views can be enjoyed through the French doors. The fully equipped kitchen includes an electric double oven, induction hob, dishwasher, fridge freezer, microwave, toaster and kettle. A downstairs WC contains a hand basin and a cupboard housing a washing machine, airer and ironing board.
The four stylish and comfortable bedrooms are arranged over the first and second floors. The first bedroom is spacious, with exposed beams, window seats and a king-sized bed, and a travel cot can be provided on request. The second bedroom overlooks the garden and also features a king-sized bed along with an en-suite shower room, WC and wash basin. The third bedroom is a bright twin room with two single beds. The fourth bedroom sits on the second floor and is a light, spacious attic conversion with ample headroom, furnished with a king-sized bed and bespoke headboard. A retractable stair gate is fitted at both the top and bottom of the stairs for added safety.
The main bathroom is traditional in style, featuring a freestanding bath with ball-and-claw feet that offers a perfect place to unwind after a long walk, as well as a shower-over-bath option. It also includes a high-level cistern toilet and hand basin. The en-suite bathroom incorporates a shower and WC and makes creative use of an old washstand as a sink unit. A further WC is located on the ground floor.
The secure, walled courtyard garden is a suntrap that includes an original cobblestone square and handmade seating. A small lawn provides a safe space for children and dogs, while planted borders add colour and charm. The patio area is furnished with a dining table and eight chairs and a charcoal barbecue is available for al fresco meals, with tools provided. One designated off-street parking space is located 20 metres away, and on-street parking for an additional car is available with the provided permit. Further long-stay parking can be found less than a minute’s walk away for a small daily fee.
Perfectly positioned in the heart of the Wye Valley, Old Forge Cottage serves as an exceptional base for exploring Herefordshire and the Forest of Dean. Guests can enjoy easy access to historic castles, medieval sites and picturesque market towns, as well as outdoor adventures such as canoeing on the River Wye. Local cider producers offer tastings for those keen to sample regional flavours, while gardens, heritage attractions, spas and activity centres lie within a short drive. After a day of discovery, visitors can savour Herefordshire’s vibrant food scene, with excellent farm shops and gastropubs close by.
