The Hendre Farmhouse

Builth Wells, Powys

Sleeps 1-10
£850 - £1100

Summary

The Hendre is a delightful period Welsh farmhouse, newly converted in June this year for self catering holidays. It is 3 ½ miles from Builth Wells, Powys (home of The Royal Welsh Show) in the heart of mid-Wales. It sleeps eight in four bedrooms and is sited close to the banks of the River Irfon in the middle of a small farming estate.

Beyond the garden, a five-minute walk across the fields takes you to the River Irfon and on the riverbank, the tiny parish church of St David's Llanynis. The Irfon is famous for its trout and grayling fishing and a small salmon run in late summer/early autumn. The Church is reputed to be where Prince Llewellyn, the last Welsh Prince of Wales prayed the night before he died in battle with the English.

Holiday tenants have free access to the estate’s many tracks and paths with beautiful walks across fields and along the riverbank or up through extensive woodlands to open hills. Many of the tracks are suitable for cyclists. It is a perfect base for active holidays or peacefully relaxing away from the stresses and strains of every-day life.

Visiting Builth Wells & Exploring Powys

The Irfon valley is designated as a site of special scientific interest (SSSI) because of its sometimes rare flora and fauna including otters. This beautiful stretch of river has many lovely secluded pools for wild swimming in the heat of summer and plenty of shallows for paddling and minnowing.

Pony trekking, golf and tennis courts are available nearby and there is an indoor swimming pool in Builth Wells. It is an easy half an hour drive to Hay on Wye, the Black Mountains, Brecon Beacons and the Elan Valley Dams at Rhayader, or for longer more adventurous day trips via narrow mountain roads to remote valleys above Abergwesyn, on to Tregaron and back via the Llyn Brianne reservoir, Cynghordy and the Sugar Loaf pass. The scenery here is spectacular and you can see buzzards, red kites, ravens and of course wild welsh ponies and hill sheep, in their natural habitat.
