West Hollowcombe Cottages

All of the self catering cottages are stone barn conversions. The fully equipped kitchens also include a dishwasher, microwave and freezer. Each cottage has a wood burning stove and conventional electric heating including heated towel rails, making them snug and warm during the winter. As well as radio, television and DVD or video, depending on the cottage, there is an extensive range of books and games to borrow. An adventure playground is a recent addition for all children up to ten years old. The communal laundry room is equipped with coin operated washing and drying machines. There is also a payphone and fax in the main house.

Kiri sleeps six in three bedrooms with two bathrooms. Two of the bedrooms are galleried, the double being curtained and the twin is up a spiral staircase; both look down onto the living area and both have scissor beamed ceilings to the apex. The second twin is downstairs and has an en suite bathroom. There is a DVD player in this cottage.

Smiddy used to be the old "roundhouse" and sleeps four in two bedrooms (double galleried upstairs via a steep spiral staircase, the twin downstairs); there is one bathroom. This is a cosy cottage tucked round the corner from the others. There are views across the paddock to the village. Video available.

Jasper is "upside down" with the large living area upstairs and the bedrooms down. It sleeps four in two bedrooms, both with en suite bathrooms. There are views across the lawns to the Moor. A DVD player is in this cottage.

All of the cottages have safety lighting and smoke alarms. Water comes from our own source and is regularly inspected.

Norton is another "upside down" cottage with the bedrooms downstairs. It sleeps four in two bedrooms, both with en suite bathrooms. There are beautiful views to the Moor, West Hollowcombe Wood and the Barle Valley. A DVD player is in this cottage.

Visiting Hawkridge & Exploring Devon

The Two Moors Way passes our gate and for the energetic there are numerous other walks accessible directly from the cottages. Dogs and horses are also welcome; the latter being accommodated on a DIY livery basis. Alternatively you may simply decide to chill out and enjoy the magnificent views and wildlife. A wide variety of moorland birds and mammals such as hares, rabbits, stoats and weasels are regular visitors. Additionally Exmoor ponies are often to be seen grazing on adjoining common land.

If you wish to explore the area, we are within easy reach of the coastal towns of Porlock, Lynton and Lynmouth and close to Lorna Doone country. The pretty town of Dulverton is only a short drive away for shopping and browsing the art galleries.
