The majestic property is set in its own walled grounds of around two acres, boasting spacious lawns, rockeries, flower gardens and an orchard. You can venture into the gorgeous village of Symondsbury, which has a thatched pub, grocery shop and cafe only 2 minutes away. Travel a mile along the Dorset Jurassic coast and experience the breathtaking cliff top walks and sandy beaches.

Accommodation

Our luxurious property sleeps up to 22 people and has everything you need for a special getaway in a picturesque location. The manor house blend modern furnishing with traditional pieces to create a relaxing country house feel without any stiff formality.

The house contains a large number of paintings both contemporary and traditional which have been collected by the owner, who is himself a painter, over a period of time. The interior is colourful and comfortable and lends itself well to weekend house parties. Thomas Hardy came to tea here in 1883 and Symondsbury Manor has hosted a number of well-known figures in the arts in recent years.

Being a large Manor House, the spacious accommodation comprises eleven rooms, including seven double rooms and four twin rooms. In total there are 4 bathrooms, four of which are family bathrooms and five are en suite bathrooms.

The living area is particularly large, with a dining table that extends to seat twenty-three. At the other end of the room there are plenty of comfy sofas and armchairs and a wood burning stove, pool table and large flat screen television, DVD player and iPod dock. French doors open onto the wonderful garden. There is also a south facing sun lounge which overlooks the garden and church.

The spacious kitchen has a four oven AGA and a large range style gas cooker, two large fridge/freezers, dishwasher, washing machine, kitchen equipment, cutlery and crockery for twenty-three guests. The house also has a magnificent ballroom, games room with table tennis and a piano. Washing facilities, pampering and spa facilities are available on request.

You can relax and unwind in the idyllic gardens, brimming with tumbling vines and roses, with views of the village church beyond. Croquet and badminton sets are provided and garden chairs are dotted around. One of the stone walls has a built-in BBQ, perfect for al fresco dining on a warm, summer’s day.

Visiting Bridport & Exploring Dorset.

The entire area is designated as being an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is ideal for long walks or a relaxed seaside holiday. It is about a mile and a half to the sea and there are a variety of beaches to choose from ranging from sandy beaches at West Bay and Lyme Regis to small coves at Eype and Chideok. This is the scenery that appeared in the Harbour Lights television series and in various films in which Symondsbury Manor featured as a location.

Bridport, the nearest town, is a mile and a half away and has large street markets twice a week Wednesday and Saturday of fruit and vegetables, antiques and bric-a-brac. There are golf links, horse riding, sailing and diving facilities within easy reach. There is a wide and growing choice of restaurants offering English and ethnic cuisine and many good pubs including the Ilchester Arms in Symondsbury, only one hundred yards from the house.
